Riyadh International Disputes Week Coming Up

Exploring and Creating ADR Opportunities in MENA’s Largest Economy

Heralding the advanced level of development Saudi Arabia has achieved both in its legislative and legal environment and its dispute resolution system, the Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration (SCCA) announced the launch of Riyadh International Disputes Week (RIDW). This international platform aims at bringing together key players in the dispute resolution market to explore ADR realities and opportunities in the Middle East’s largest economy, share knowledge and expertise, and forge relationships and collaborations.

The inaugural Riyadh International Disputes Week (RIDW) will be held the week of 3 March 2024 and thereafter annually in March of each year.

RIDW24 will feature dozens of world-class events related to the resolution of commercial as well as investment disputes, covering arbitration, mediation, litigation, and other legal topics, accompanied by an international conference the SCCA is organizing on 6 March 2024 in partnership with the leading international organizations developing the field of ADR.

RIDW24 will also feature the oral proceedings stage of the 5th annual SCCA International Arabic Moot being held in-person for the first time, after being virtual in the previous four editions of the competition. Pairing these two major events will bolster the momentum that will emerge from the week.

A steering committee of local and international stakeholders in the ADR industry will organize a world-leading Disputes to foster innovation, growth and sustainability.

To kick things off, Saudi Arabia's local and international ADR institution, SCCA is now inviting anyone wanting to organize events as part of RIDW and anyone wanting to seize sponsorship opportunities to visit the official website of Riyadh International Disputes Week at www.RIDW.org.

Today, SCCA Chairman Dr. Walid bin Sulaiman Abanumay observed: “said Saudi Arabia is progressing day after day in the development of its legislative and judicial environment, especially in light of four major draft laws, the latest of which to be issued being the Civil Transactions Law. This legislation is accompanied by a major economic push in the form of megaprojects and the establishment of economic cities and economic zones. The country seeks to attract foreign investment and the regional headquarters of international companies, which would make it a regional destination for the commercial dispute resolution industry.”

SCCA CEO Dr. Hamed Bin Hassan Merah added: “The objectives of Riyadh International Disputes Week are to enhance Saudi Arabia’s soft power, showcase the developments the country has already achieved in the field of ADR, and reinforce confidence in its judicial environment as a safe place for commercial arbitration. This will help foster Saudi business sectors and attract local and foreign investment.”
